phosphenia_
edge-detected dance × touchdesigner
“Phosphenia” blends the realms of dance and technology, a collaboration between Cora, an experimental choreographer from Rome, and a sophisticated TouchDesigner patch. It stands out for its innovative use of technology in capturing and enhancing movement.
The core of “Phosphenia” is its ability to detect the edges of moving forms using simple, low-resolution cameras, making it remarkably accessible due to its low-budget sensor requirements. The patch focuses on the edges of the dancers’ forms as they move, transforming their movements into abstract, blot-like figures.
The feedback applied to these edges results in an ever-changing display of abstract shapes that dance in sync with the performers. A beautiful, functional union of art and technology, extending the expressive possibilities of dance.
